Aswini College of Nursing, Thrissur (Kerala): A workshop on Evidence-Based Nursing Practice, “Issues & Challenges” under the TNAI Kerala State Branch, North-East Zone on 27 Aug 2009. It was inaugurated by Dr CN Parameswarn, Mg Director, Aswini Hospitals. Prof B Leelamma, Principal of College delivered presidential address. Prof Girija Nair, MPhil, the resource person, delivered key note address. About 50 delegates from schools and colleges of nursing participated in the workshop.

Vinayaka Missions’s Annapoorana College of Nursing: During the breastfeeding week 2009 celebration, an exhibition on various aspects of breastfeeding at Nainampatti village was inaugurated by Mr Sivakumar, President of the village on 1 Aug 2009. On 3 August 2009, a group discussion was organised by the College faculty. In the programme, mothers were motivated to adopt exclusive breastfeeding. The programme ended with vote of thanks on 4 Aug 2009.

School of Nursing, St Joseph’s Hospital, Anchal, Kollam (Kerala): The lamp lighting ceremony of 16th batch of GNM students was held on 18 Jan 2009. Rev Fr Thomas Kumbakattu Cor-Episcopa inaugurated the function, and delivered message of the day. Ancelet DM, Director, St Joseph’s Institutions gave presidential address. Dr (Mrs) Revathi S, Principal of College lighted the lamp to students. Mrs Somavally A Nair, Principal, administered the Nurses pledge. Sr Mercy John, DM, Administrator felicitated the students.

St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Anchal, Kollam, Kerala: The Graduation ceremony of 12th batch of GNM students was held on 11 June 2009. The Chief guest was Rev Dr Joshua Mar Ignathias Metropolitan, Bishop of Mavelikkara who delivered presidential address and distributed the certificates. Adv K Raju, MLA, inaugurated the function. Rev Sr Lily Thomas DM, Director, St Joseph’s Institutions welcomed the gathering. Prof Mini George, Principal Bishop Benzigar College of Nursing, Kollam, delivered key note address and presented the award for the best vigilant Nurse. Adv K Raju presented the Gold Medal. Others gracing the occasion included Shri VY Varghese, Vice President, Anchal Grama Panchayath. Sr Mercy John DM, Health Councillor, Sr Mary’s province Thiruvananthapuram. Rev Sr Sobitha DM, Assistant Prof & Coordinator GNM programme, Administered Nurses Pledge. Mrs Somavally A Nair, Principal, St Joseph’s School of Nursing, presented School Report for the year 2008. Rev Fr Johnson Puthuvelil, Prof St John’s College & Vicar, St Mary’s Church, Anchal, felicitated the function and Ms Saritha Ramachandran, Vice Principal, School of Nursing proposed Vote of Thanks.

Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal : Annual Day was held on 30 October 2009 at KMC Greens, Manipal. Dr Vinaya Hegde, President, Nitte Education Trust, Mangalore was the Chief guest. He advised the graduates to update their knowledge and expertise, their skills in patient care and uncompromising with quality care. Dr G Josephine R Little Flower, Registrar, Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council, Chennai was the Guest of honour. In her talk, she mentioned the approaches to create the future of Nursing by following few simple steps like developing intellectual capital, building community through partnerships and the importance of character education. Graduates of BSc (N), PC BSc (N), MSc (N), MPhil (N) and PhD (N) were felicitated by Dr HS Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MU and Dr GK Prabhu, Registrar, MU. Dean, MCON, Manipal presented the report of the College. Ms Erna Judith Roach, Asso Dean, welcomed the gathering and Mrs Sangeetha Priyadarshini, Convenor of the programme proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Mrs Linu Sara George, Asso Prof. In the programme there were cultural events by students and faculty.
