On behalf of TNAI I take this opportunity to welcome all the respected dignitaries, media personnel,
senior members of the profession and student to the 23rd Biennial Conference of SNA being
conducted in the beautiful city of Kolkata, the land of Ramakrishna Paramhans and Vivekananda.
The theme of the Conference “Quality Nursing Education - Right of Every Student” is quite appropriate
in the present scenario. I am very happy that we have the very right and dynamic person, Mr T
Dileep Kumar, Nursing Advisor to Govt. of India with us who unfolded the theme of the Conference.
The Trained Nurses’ Association of India is committed to obtain the highest level of quality
patient care by empowering each nurse to achieve this goal by providing conducive atmosphere in
education and training.
Nursing is the only financial recession-proof job listed among the top 100 jobs. Economists are
writing about the opportunities nursing offers today, tomorrow and in the long run. Nursing is
incredibly exciting and one of the most trusted profession in our nation and around the globe.
The fundamental rights in India are enshrined in the part iii of the constitution of India. There
are six fundamental rights. Among these, No.5 mentions about the cultural and educational rights.
Rights literally mean those freedoms which are essential for personal good, as well as the good of
the community. Therefore, TNAI believes that the quality education is the fundamental right of
every student and every nurse too.
TNAI is a professional organisation of nurses of our country. It is functioning for last 100 years to
protect the fundamental rights of the students as well as public at large. Bridging gaps in education
and practice is always on its agenda and the TNAI has taken continuous effort since its inception to
reduce these gaps.
The quality and competency is the motto of the organisation and we are grateful to our national
regulatory body (INC), as it has been working for this. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India, is supporting this cause through its policy decisions and now even providing
the financial support. Under the constant supervision and monitory of the regularly body of the
profession, and supportive role of the Government of India, I am sure, TNAI will certainly be successful
to achieve the goal of quality education and service.
Besides all the resources provided, you may, dear students, need to make a consecutive effort to
achieve certain qualities such as:
Commitment to the profession maintaining dignity and professional ethics.
Ready to correct mistake and learn from mistakes.
Right attitude.
Compassion.
Respect the right of every client irrespective of caste, colour, creed and nationality.
In conclusion, for quality education and to bridge the gap in education and service, we have to be
receptive and try to explore the best opportunities. Opportunities will come early, make use of it.
I take this occasion to express my sincere appreciation of the host branch West Bengal for
organising this grand event. I convey my gratitude to Dr Asim Dasgupta and Mr T Dileep Kumar
and all other dignitaries by gracing this occasion with their valuable presence. I am sure that you
will enjoy the stay here and the fruitful deliberations of today and tomorrow. I wish all the success
for this Conference. Thank you.
