The programme, inaugurated by Shri PWC Davidar IAS, Joint Secretary-Health & FW included preconference workshops, scientific sessions, panel discussions, concurrent sessions and poster presentations. Others gracing the occasion included Dr Elango, Director Public Health, Ms Apoorva, Special Secretary-Health, TN.</font><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Besides resource persons, 516 participants from 15 States attended the workshop. Best Community Health Nurse Award was given to Miss BA Devaneson; certificates for exemplary services were given to Dr Chellarani Vijayakumar, Sr Dorros and Ms Pratibha Chandekar. </font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The open forum resolved that Community Health Nurses (i) form a Forum of Indian Community Health Nurses Association, (ii) be willing to take up roles apart from the formal structures, (iii) empower themselves for service to the community and function as leaders, (iv) be involved in management of various health projects independently (v) be involved in nurse entrepreneurship and be managers, (vi) shall conduct community research in areas of current health needs (vii) shall network for sharing views and promoting themselves, and (viii) shall participate in policy making at National and State levels.</font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><img src="a3.gif" width="282" height="166"><br> PSG College of Nursing, Coimbatore : Graduation ceremony of the 10th batch of B.Sc Nursing students and 3rd batch of M.Sc Nursing students was organised on 10 October 2008. In her address as chief guest at this occasion, Dr M Prakasamma, Director-Academy of Nursing Studies exhorted the young nurses to aspire high in life. She advised them to focus on improving the health conditions of the people in community rather than going abroad. Three gold medals were instituted for graduates and post graduates. The college magazine Finesse 08 was also released at this occasion. </font></p></td> <td valign="top" width="50%"><p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><img src="a2.gif" width="285" height="175"><br> Vinayaka Mission s Annapoorana College of Nursing, Salem : The Annual Aumni Programme was conducted on 5 July last year. Quiz and cultural events were the main highlights of the programme which was inaugurated by the president. The winners and the alumni members were given the prizes. At this occasion, elections were also held for the post of Treasurer, Joint Secretary and Chairperson-Educational Committee. The alumni members also participated in the National Seminar on Millennium Development in Nursing held in the college the following day.</font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><img src="a6.gif" width="284" height="175"><br> Sacred Heart Nursing College, Madurai : A 2-day workshop on Key Concepts in Nursing Research was held on 4-5 December 2008 at Ultra Mission Hospital & Research Centre, Madurai. Inaugurating the workshop, the chief guest Dr Josephine R Little Flower, Registrar-Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council, Chennai stressed on the importance of nursing research and its key elements and future direction. </font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The resource persons included Dr AV Raman, Dean - Omayal Achi College of Nursing, Chennai; Dr Stephen, Reader - Statistics in St Joseph College Trichy; Dr Paul Kumaran, Asst Director-Medical; and Dr Angela Gnanadurai. The workshop, attended by 270 participants deliberated on issues such as development of problem statement, formulation of research hypothesis, experimental & non-experimental research, ethical issues in nursing, inferential statistics research, etc. </font></p> <div align="justify"> <table width="100%" border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td valign="top"><div align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">ATTENTION: SNA UNITS<br> Kindly note that as per Minute No. SNA G.C./38/2008 Item 2 (i) it has been decided at the TNAI Headquarters, that the month of renewal for SNA Subscription will be uniform for all SNA units from 2009.
