TNAI ELECTIONS 2010
Election Notice

Nominations are invited for the office of (a) President, (b) Vice Presidents, (3 Nos.), (c) Hon Treasurer, (d) Hon. Secretary Health Visitors’ League and (e) Hon. Secretary, Midwives and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives Association, TNAI.

Any full member of the TNAI may make nominations for these offices. HVL & M&ANMA members are preferred to make nominations for their respective offices (S.No. (d) & (e)).

The Nominations are required to be submitted on the Nomination Forms appearing in this issue (May 2010 issue of the Journal (Page No. 102). The instruction contained below as well as on the Nomination Forms must be carefully followed before filling the nominations. The Nomination Forms in a sealed envelop should be submitted to: The Returning Officer, TNAI Election 2010, L- 17, Florence Nightingale Lane, Green Park, New Delhi-110016. The last date for receipt of Nominations at the TNAI Headquarters Office is June 10, 2010.

Instructions for Nominators

1. Office of the President TNAI:

a) Any full member of TNAI may make nominations for the office of President.

b) The Nominations for the President shall be made only from full member of TNAI who has served for atleast 2 terms of 4 years each (eight years) on the Council of TNAI.

c) A break after 2 consecutive terms in Council (8 years), NOT REQUIRED FOR THE POST OF PRESIDENT (CLAUSE NO. 12 (a), TNAI Constitution Rules & Regulations.

Vice Presidents, TNAI:

a) Any full member of TNAI may make nominations for the office of Vice President.

b) The Nominations for the Vice President shall be made only from full member of TNAI who has served for atleast 4 years (One term) on the Council of TNAI.

c) A break after 2 consecutive terms in Council (8 years) REQUIRED FOR THE POST OF VICE PRESIDENTS, Clause No. 12(a), TNAI Constitution Rules & Regulations.

d) Out of 3 TNAI Vice Presidents, one Vice President shall be from the place where the TNAI Headquarters is located i.e. Delhi.

2. Office of the Hon. Treasurer, TNAI:

a) Any full member of TNAI may make Nominations for the office of Hon. Treasurer, TNAI.

b) The Nominations for the Hon. Treasurer, TNAI shall be from the place where the Headquarters is located i.e. Delhi.

c) She/He need not have served on the TNAI Council earlier.

3. Office of Hon. Secretary, Health Visitors’ League:

A candidate eligible for nomination to the post of Hon. Secretary, Health Visitors’ League, shall be an active member of Health Visitors’ League or a Public Health Nurse who shall be a full member of the TNAI.

4.Office of Hon. Secretary Midwives and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives’ Association: A candidate eligible for nomination to the post of Hon. Secretary M&ANM Association should be an active member of M&ANM Association or a Public Health Nurse who should be a member of the TNAI.

The names of all eligible nominees for the office of President & Vice Presidents, TNAI will be put up as candidates for the election. In the case of offices of Hon. Treasurer, TNAI, Hon. Secretaries, M&ANMA and HVL, the three eligible nominees who obtain the highest number of nominations for each office shall be put up as candidate for election.

A person elected on a particular Office would hold that Office for full term (four years). Contest and cross-office not permissible unless the Office holder has completed full elected term (four year). The TNAI Office Bearers who held elected positions prior to October 1981 amendment, on TNAI Council here after will not be entitled to preferential status for President and Vice President’s Election (The 12th House of Delegates, in its meeting in September 1997 at Chennai, amended the earlier provision).

Ex-officio and co-opted members term shall not be counted for TNAI Elections and also the term(s) of those holding elected office(s) for interim period.

The Election for the various posts are held for a term of four years and not for any lesser period. A member is elected for a full term of four years on the Council. Any breach in completing the term with less or more duration will not qualify a person for nomination to any office. Clarification, if any, on the matter could be sought from the Returning Officer, TNAI Elections by May 31, 2010.

Full Name and address of the nominee must be written in block letters. The election shall be conducted by secret ballot at the meeting of the House of Delegates (during TNAI Conference in 2010, Kerala).

Instruction for Nominees

1. Nominees for the above mentioned offices would be given instructions individually in writing regarding their consent to stand for election by the Returning Officer and the same to be returned to the Returning Officer by June 15, 2010.

2. Those who have consented to stand for election to the office of President, Vice Presidents must furnish a security deposit Rs.2500 through Demand Draft to be drawn in favour of TNAI payable at New Delhi and the same to the Headquarters office before June 30, 2010. This amount shall be refunded to all the contestants who obtain at least 5% of the total votes polled (Election Procedure Bye-Laws Clause No. 11(1)(i). Only the names of those who furnish security deposit by the said date will appear on the ballot paper for the office of President and Vice Presidents.
