LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur (Assam) : Dept of Nursing organised a 10-day workshop on ‘The Nurse Manager : A changing Concept’ for the nursing personnel during 26 June - 5 July 2009. About 30 nursing personnel from various places of Assam participated in the workshop. The inaugural session was graced by Dr B Kalita, Jt Director of Health Services, Sonitpur District as chief guest, SK Deuri, Director LGBRIMH and the Principals of various schools of nursing, faculty and staff of LGBRIMH. Mrs Arunjyoti Baruah coordinated the workshop. The workshop included lectures, demonstrations, group activities and video clipping to cover various aspects of nursing management and latest trends. The workshop ended with the post-evaluation, followed by the valedictory session and sharing of experiences by the participants.

Annammal College of Nursing, Kuzhithurai : Lamp lighting ceremony of the B.Sc. Nursing and Diploma nursing students was held on 24 March 2009. The guest of honour was Bro Mohan C Lazarus, Founder of Jesus Redeems ministries who highlighted the import of divine calling of nursing and professional qualities of nurses to discharge the duties effectively. Dr Sheeba Jeyalal, the chairman lighted Kuthuvilakku. Earlier, Mrs Hazlin Linnet, the Admin Officer welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Jerlin Priya, the Principal, introduced the students. Mrs Mary Jasmine, Vice Principal, Mrs Lilly Moni, Nursing Suptdt handed out the lamp to the students. Mrs Jobin Livingstone, Lecturer recited the Nightingale’s Pledge for the students. Students were blessed by Dr Jeyalal, Secretary, Rev Moses Kesari, District Minister Kuzhithurai, Dr Anburanjan, Peace Health Centre, Tirunelveli, Dr K Sampath, Medical Officer, Govt Hospital, Kuzhithurai and Rev Justin, District Chairman, CSI Peyyad, Trivandrum. Vote of thanks was rendered by SNA Advisor, Mrs Mahizha.

Sree Narayana Nursing College, Nellore (TN) : State Nurses Conference - 2008 was held in the College with the theme, ‘Research methodology’ on 12 September 2008 with the objectives of enriching the knowledge of students in research methodology, and to encourage them to participate in research at their level. The conference had six scientific sessions on nursing research, statement of problem, research design, sampling, data collection and statistics. About 450 delegates from various parts of Andhra Pradesh and outside participated in the conference. The eminent nursing personnel present in the conference, who made presentations included Dr Esther Sirria, Dr AV Raman and Prof Sudaram.

Holy Cross Hospital, Kottiyam, Kollam (Kerala) : The CNE South Zone Kerala State Branch was held on 9 June 2009 at Holy Cross Hospital, Kottiyam on the theme ‘Nursing Education and Nursing Practice - Bridging the Gap’. There were 75 delegates who participated in the CNE which aimed to create awareness regarding the role of a nurse educator and nursing service personnel towards integration of nursing education and nursing practice. Sr Doris Mookamparambil, Principal welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was given by Sr Mary Lucita, Regional director and Principal, SME Institute of Nursing Education, MG University, Regional Centre, Angamaly. Mrs SA Samuel, TNAI National Ex- President gave the keynote address. The resource person, Dr Angela Gnana Durai, Vice Principal, CSI College of Nursing, Karakkonam, led informative sessions on the need to bridge the existing gap, dual responsibility and role of a nurse educator and nursing service personnel towards integration, followed by discussions on problems and issues related to integration of nursing practice and education. Focus group discussions dwelt on relevance of nursing in the 21st century. The valedictory function was chaired by Prof Kochuthresia Emmannuel, Principal, Azeezia, College of Nursing, Meeyannoor and Sr Fides Thottan, Administrator, Holy Cross Hospital. Sr Gabriella Illickal, Principal, Lourdes School of Nursing, Kottiyam delivered the vote of thanks.
