Without teachers, there would be no class in the world
Life is a journey and one can relish each moment of it so long as
one is open to learning. In fact growth is an ongoing evolutionary
continuum, of which learning is an integral ingredient. The vital
role of teaching in our lives – hence the teachers, is thus axiomatic.
However, a teacher can contribute and deliver his/her best if
and only if (s)he is in teaching profession by choice (and not otherwise),
and proud of it.
As nation celebrates the Teachers’ Day on 5 September, a rethink
appears a must about our attitude to teaching and teachers.
Most teaching institutions, particularly the professional ones are
today facing dearth of teachers because the new generation does
not hold teaching in high esteem, good salaries to teachers notwithstanding.
This is highly deplorable. In fact the hefty package
being offered by industry dissuades the graduating pass-outs to
consider teaching as an attractive proposition. It’s time, we all
make youngsters discover the many benefits of teaching, besides
the sanctity attached with this profession.
Nurses, by virtue of their profession, perform multi-faceted
roles, teaching being integral to most of her jobs – this is besides
those who are exclusively into teaching. Teachers lay the foundation
for the future of the nation, therefore, for holistic development
of the students teachers themselves need to hone up their
teaching skills for better outcomes. On Teachers’ Day, we join
nation in saluting S. Radhakrishnan, the former President, and
more than that a teacher, who befittingly glorified the role of
teaching profession.
Happy Teachers Day.
